    Workplace Safety-Active Shooter

    … designed to prepare participants for incidents of workplace violence with an emphasis on the active shooter. Jonesboro, Arkansas; Columbine, Colorado; Newtown, Connecticut; and Brookfield, Wisconsin are tragic reminders that violence can happen anywhere.




    • Points of learning/discussion:
    • Recognizing a problem before it is too late; mentally prepare
    • Having a plan for adults, children, and organizations
    • Sample policies to enact at your organization
    • Planning an escape route at your organization
    • Proper practice for an active shooter, the modern “fire drill”
    • Physical steps which can be taken to “harden” your environment from these tragedies
    • Immediate actions for adults to take when confronted by an active shooter situation
    • What to expect when law enforcement responds to an active shooter situation
    • Medical self help if tragedy strikes
    • If tragedy strikes, how to minimize the emotional and mental trauma; and talk about it

    About the presenter:
    Jason Wilterdink has 15 years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, including being a full time law enforcement officer for a medium-sized Wisconsin city.

    Jason also served in an international police mission for the United Nations where he served in Liberia-West Africa as the team leader for the crowd control team and lead instructor for physical security, operational security, and civil unrest in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1509.

    He is currently a full-time instructor at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, WI. Jason is a master instructor in use of force and certified by several organizations as a firearms instructor. He has served as an instructor and expert witness in self-defense, training, safety, security, health, wellness, and fitness.
