    Background Checks:   The ABC’s of Reducing Risk, Hiring the Right Employee, and Sleeping  Better At Night

    All organizations strive to reduce risk, hire the right employees, and retain their best employees. Pre-employment background checks are a critical tool that will help you meet these goals. Yet, many organizations still do not utilize them.  Bill Wons  will give an overview of the Criminal Justice System as it pertains to background checks.  He will show why there is not a “cookie cutter” approach to doing background checks and how each organization must decide what are the best background checks for them. He will then give a brief overview of the Fair Credit Reporting Act which governs the use of background checks in the hiring process.

    About the presenter: Bill Wons received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from UW-Platteville and an MBA from UW-Oshkosh.  He is also a licensed private detective. After graduating from UW-Platteville, Bill worked for the Oneida Nation performing background checks on applicants for their gaming operations. In 1998, he founded Wons Background Investigations. His company has seen continuous growth and currently works with over 450 companies and organizations including many that can be considered household names.  In addition to employment background checks, Wons Background Investigations also performs volunteer background checks and  tenant screening.
